Where the images come from

Mourning art, manuscripts, and quiet unease

The imagery draws on Victorian mourning keepsakes, medieval bestiaries, and antique illustrations. Ravens, fallen angels, velvet hearts, and suspicious rabbits all appear in these old sources, each carrying a tenderness that sits close to something unsettling.

I am drawn to the odd places where beauty and dread meet, and I work from those sources without trying to reproduce them. Each composition is reworked for color depth and contrast so the picture still holds its own once it is reduced to a few centimetres.

How the pieces are made

Painted small, sealed under curved glass

Each piece is painted by hand with fine attention to color and detail, then set beneath curved glass so the image keeps its depth and clarity. I start with a picture and work out how its little world can live inside a frame the size of a coin.
